WordPress Design in a Day Package

I’m currently reworking the Design in a Day package. If you’re interested, contact me for more information.

The EfficientWP Method

I’m Doug Yuen, founder of EfficientWP. I’ve been building websites since 1998, and focusing exclusively on WordPress since 2008. I’ve spoken at several WordCamp conferences around the country and even co-hosted a WordPress podcast, WPcast.fm.

When I started this business, I found the typical web design process to be very inefficient. Email conversations can stretch out for weeks, and often months. This typically leads to launch delays and unexpected costs.

So, I developed the “design in a day” package, where I handle most of the setup beforehand, and then on the scheduled day, I work with you in real-time to customize your design.

You get a quality, custom design in a day, instead of weeks.

Some of the unique benefits of the Design in a Day package:

  • Screen sharing allows for instant design feedback.
  • Talking is far faster than emailing back and forth.
  • Watching me make changes and explain how to do things will help you learn faster.

The price for the Design in a Day package is $1,500.

Click the button below to contact me and schedule a free consultation call. We’ll discuss your requirements, design preferences, and content to see if it’s the right fit for you.

The Process

Consultation Call

In the initial consultation call, we’ll confirm if this service is the right fit for your needs. We’ll discuss your requirements, your design preferences, the amount of content you have, and schedule the day for the design customization and launch.

Materials and Setup

I’ll send you a list of required materials and login credentials. You should get these to me at least 3 business days in advance of the scheduled day, so I have enough time to prepare.

I’ll set up the basics, and start adding and formatting the content. This part will cover a maximum of 5 hours of work, which is enough for most small websites. Configuration typically includes the following (where necessary):

  • Point your domain to your hosting
  • Install and configure WordPress
  • Security setup
  • SSL certificate setup
  • Install and configure the theme. It will be one of the following:
    • GeneratePress, with the GP Premium plugin
    • Dynamik, a premium child theme on the Genesis framework
  • Install and set up plugins. Some that I commonly use:
    • Beaver Builder, a premium page builder
    • Gravity Forms, a premium contact form plugin
    • Related Posts for WordPress, a free related posts plugin
    • ShortPixel, a free (with a quota) image optimization plugin
    • Simple 301 Redirects, a free and easy redirect plugin
    • UpdraftPlus, a premium backup plugin
    • WP 101, a premium WordPress tutorial video plugin
    • WP Rocket, a premium site speed optimization plugin
    • Yoast SEO, a free SEO plugin

You’ll also get extra value from premium themes and plugins. I have developer licenses for themes and plugins that allow me to install them on unlimited client sites and you’ll get upgrades “forever”.

I expect to renew any premium themes and plugins I set up on client sites “forever”. However, circumstances may change, so I can’t make any guarantees. The developer might stop updating their product, they might change their licensing agreement, or they might increase their prices. Or if I think the quality of the product has gone down significantly, I may stop renewing my license.

Start the Day

We’ll start the day with a kickoff call to go over your design preferences and any other requirements.

Customization

I’ll make changes based on your feedback throughout the day. We can stay on the call and you can watch my screen, or if you have other things to do, we can schedule times to call back. Or you can send me changes as you think of them, via message or email.

Training

I’ll demonstrate how to make changes to your site, show you where to find more tutorials, and answer any other questions you can think of.

Launch

At the end of the day, we launch your new site!

FAQs

How much does the Design in a Day package cost?

The price is $1,500. If this package isn’t right for you, my rate starts at $120/hr with a $1,200 minimum. Please see the Services page for more details. (My rates will increase in 2023.)

What can be done with the Design in a Day package?

Naturally, there’s a limit to what can be achieved in a day. The Design in a Day package is for smaller, simpler websites. It’s often suited for brand new websites. E-commerce sites, membership sites, or otherwise large or complex sites are not a good fit for this package. However, if you have a complex site, the overall design could be done with the Design in a Day package, and additional complex functionality can be added afterwards (see the Services page).

What are the payment terms?

An initial deposit of 50% ($750) is required to schedule the design customization day and before any setup work is started. The remaining 50% ($750) is due by the start of the scheduled day. If the day is split in two, then the second 50% is due by the start of the second scheduled day. If you prefer to pay the full price up front, that’s fine too.

I accept payments by Zelle, ACH bank transfer, wire, credit card, and PayPal (in my order of preference, due to transaction fees).

Checks are only accepted for payments of $2,000 or more. If you plan to pay by check, please contact me for details first.

How is the real-time work done?

I prefer to use Zoom, which is free to download at https://zoom.us. I can also use Skype, Google Hangouts, or other services, but I’ve found Zoom to be the most reliable.

What constitutes a day?

The day typically goes from 9AM to 6PM Hawaii Standard Time, with some short breaks in between, so there are 8 hours of work. The start and end times can be adjusted by a couple of hours, depending on your time zone.

If it’s easier for your schedule, especially if you are in a different time zone, we can divide it into two 4 hour blocks on separate days, as long as they are in the same week.

What if I need to reschedule?

If you give me at least 24 hours notice, there is no fee the first time you reschedule.

If you give me less than 24 hours notice, or if it’s not the first time you’re rescheduling, there is a $100 rescheduling fee (payment required by the time the day starts).

What if we finish early?

Any remaining time will be counted as account credit, based on the standard hourly rate. For example, if there are 2 hours remaining, you’ll be credited $240.

Do I have to pay for software licenses or upgrades?

In the majority of cases, you will not have to pay for any licenses, and you will have lifetime upgrades for the premium themes and plugins used under my licenses.

If you request a feature that calls for a theme or plugin license that you will have to purchase yourself, we can discuss alternatives if you do not want to purchase the license.

What if I need additional work done after the day is finished?

Please see the Services page for more details. For most tasks, my standard rate will be more affordable. For more substantial work that requires design or training, my day rate might make more sense.
